Frugal Tip of the Day: Dress for Success for Less
People need to be aware of how much value can be found at a thrift store. Whether it’s for work, going out or just doing stuff around the house, you’ll find the clothing you’re looking for. I find people who’ve been only once, do not fully comprehend how great it is and the deals you can find if you frequent the store. Things I personally buy at a thrift store are:
- My work clothes: I work in the cement industry and cement eats away at clothing
- My Relaxing Clothes: Big sweaters and big pants, they don’t have to be brand name
- My garden clothes: Why ruin a pair of brand name jeans or pants to work around the yard?
- My T-shirts: You can find great t-shirts at thrift stores that are hard to find anywhere else.
- My Collard Shirts: I always find brand new brand name collard shirts at the thrift store. I save 80% to 95% off the store prices.
What you need to know about thrift stores:
1) Thrift Stores Can Range in Quality of Merchandise: All thrift stores will have junk. It’s your job to search through the junk to find the hidden treasures.
2) They Always Have Great Halloween Costumes: Every year I buy my Halloween costume at the thrift store because they have a great selection of old and new for a great price.
3) Every thrift Store is Different: The one by my house is horrible: I always go to the one by my work because it’s newer, bigger and in an upper class area. I can usually find lots of golf shirts that have been won at tournaments or dress shirts that are still in the packaging.
4) Shop After Christmas: Every January I’ll head over to the thrift store to find a variety of brand new clothing items that have been given as gifts for Christmas that didn’t suit the receivers taste..
5) Stock Changes Often: Thirty percent of the time, I’ll find nothing I like. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find anything your first time.
