This is your unique information that makes you distinct from anyone else. You will want to make sure it is accurate and that it gives a valid picture of who you are.
Name
It is not unusual for this section to have a few variations on the spelling of your name. The credit reporting agencies will tell you that it doesn’t matter. They don’t want you to dispute the accuracy because each spelling is linked to accounts (trade lines) in your account. It could be said that if the name isn’t right it isn’t yours. The law is that the information must be accurate, complete and timely. I believe that a misspelled name, no matter what it is linked to is inaccurate. If you believe the same then dispute it. Send a copy of your drivers license and tell them that is the correct way to spell your name and you want all other spellings removed
Date of birth
Even if your name is correct, if the birth date is wrong, it could very well be someone else or an identity thief at work. You may want to have this area corrected also.
Social Security number
There should be only one listed as you are to have only one. If there is more than on it is inaccurate. Sending them a copy of your social security card and the request to remove all other inaccurate data should resolve the problem.
Addresses
This is another area where, if it is wrong, you could be having your good credit messed up by the cousin/uncle you are named after. This section may show all the places you have lived in the past 40 years but there is nothing that lets the reviewer know that. If you have a lot of addresses it may appear that you are unstable to a prospective employer.
Employment
This area will list the companies that you have worked for. This may be inaccurate, incomplete, and at the worst, not even close to you. If you don’t want more than your current employer listed you will want to send a copy of your pay stub and let them know that this is the correct employer and all other names and address are inaccurate and should be removed.
Spouse
Here is a list of those that you have applied for credit with. If they list multiple names it can definitely look like you are a player. Or it can appear that you are unstable.
Telephone
Any phone number that the credit bureau has received from creditors, prospective creditors and from prospective employers is listed. Multiple phone numbers can have the same effect as multiple names, addresses, spouses, social security numbers and dates of birth.
Errors – inaccuracies
It is recommended by credit experts to dispute all inaccurate data. The credit report is your electronic reputation. Make sure it represents you in the most favorable light. Just because a credit bureau says “Don’t worry about this, it won’t affect your credit score” doesn’t mean that it wont effect how a prospective employer, insurer or creditor views you. Clean up anything that is not accurate. Send copies of your federal or state Id that has your name and address and a copy of your social security card to the credit bureau and tell them that “all other names, addresses, dates of birth, or any other identifying information that does not match these documents is not accurate and must be removed per FTC guidelines. Please remove them.”
