There’s always that one job interview you have that tops the level of all expectation. You want the job so bad you can taste sweet success in your mouth. The problem is you want it so much you are sure you are going to nervously ruin your chances. Well, here are some tips to ensure that doesn’t happen and that the job is yours by the end of your interview.

Always know why you are the one for this job
- Nothing can be more embarrassing that answering the question of why you are perfect for a certain job only too realize all the skills you have told them you have, were actually directed at tomorrow’s job. If you are trained in many different areas, as many people are today, make sure you have a firm understanding of which job interview you are walking into, because believe it or not, the number one mistake is misrepresenting yourself to your interviewers.

Keep your confidence high and your attitude low – Employers want to see somebody with both drive and determination that is determined and has the capabilities to fill their open positions successfully. Show them you are the person who can do that, by being well informed, well spoken, and showing them your self-confidence. However, arrogant and cocky is not confidence. Check your attitude at the door before walking in. You want to show them you can do the job, not take over theirs. Nobody likes someone who is full of themselves, why would they want to work with one?

Be honest- If you know a programming skill they are asking you about, feel free to say yes, but if you are only slightly familiar with it or do not know it at all, resist the temptation to lie. Oftentimes if you say yes they are going to ask you for your opinion on the subject matter or delve deeper into it. You only get yourself in trouble as they will likely know if you are lying yourself through the situation. It’s ok to have to learn a few things when starting a new job, the interviewers know that, but they will hate a liar, and if you get caught, good-bye job.

Keep your bitter comments about your last job under wraps – When employers ask you to describe your worst job experience, often they are looking to see how much you respect past employers as they know eventually they may be one. How you answer this statement could affect if you are the right person for them now. Keep comments to a momentum and answer with broad safe answers, about not enough money or an impossible manager (but leave all names OUT).

Ask your own questions
- Switch the tables on your employers and make them feel it is their privilege to be offering you a job. Be inquisitive, show interest in their job position, and leave them feeling they should be pursuing you, instead of you pursuing them.

It also helps to have made a prior connection with someone in the company to help the recruiting and interviewing process go smoothly.

Looking professional is also important. As much as no one wants to admit it, a person’s real first impressions come from appearance since that is the first aspect of a person that one encounters. Looking professional implies you put effort into yourself. If you come to the interview looking too casual, they will assume you do not put enough effort into yourself and therefore why should they think you will put effort into their company?

Whatever you do, remember that you’re there for money and that the person or persons in front of you are not your friends. You can be relaxed and detached but they are also following their own reasons and their interest in you is to make them more money.

I totally agree with looking professional for your field of work, this is a must.

All in all this is a great article, thanks!
