The internet has a wealth of resources to help with budgeting. There are sites which help you prepare your budget and sites where you can read about the personal experiences of others. These are seven I found interesting:

Help in Preparing Budgets

  • www.mvelopes.com - There is a fee to use this service but they offer a 30 day free trial. You can do your budget by computer or cell phone.
  • www.foxway.com - This site offers an email course, worksheets & spreadsheets, and a newsletter at no charge.
  • www.simpleplanning.com - This program works with Excel. There is a one time fee of $9.95. There are several plans to select from.
  • www.mint.com - A free service to help with budgets. You can link all your credit cards & other accounts. You can even compare your spending habits to other users in a secure, easily accessible way.

Read True Stories of Other People

  • www.cnnmoney.com - “Millionaires in the Making” allows individuals to share their true stories of how they manage and budget their money. Their goals are to spend less than they make, enabling them to save the excess for future needs.
  • www.yahoofinance.com - The “Focus On Retirement” archeive features true stories focusing on retirement. You get ideas on how others successfully manage a budget.

Calculators

  • http://moneycentral.msn.com - This site features a calculator to help you determine how much money you need to save today in order to have a certain amount in the future. There’s a cash flow worksheet and tools to help you create a budget on line.

If you want to know how to do something, it’s always a good idea to ask someone who already knows how to do this successfully. If you are struggling with money don’t ask the person who can not manage their money for help. Instead study the behavior of individuals with good financial habits. If you want to be a millionaire, find a millionaire to mentor you.
