One way of stepping away from the cutting edge is by accepting that until your finances are straight and your job pays you more and inflation rate has gone down, then you are not going to have all the tech toys and cultural experiences you desire. Such as if you have plans of getting yourself a new flat-screen plasma TV, an iPod touch, iPhone, concert tickets, or a getaway vacation you have to seat back think about the possible financial imbalance you will have once you pushed on getting them. Always remember that being frugal is being cool as well. Because how can one be cool if you are always stressed out to your limits because of the bills you have to pay and everything. This is a year of frugality for you, and that’s cool.

One way of being real and keeping oneself foot on the ground is by getting a library card and check out books rather than buy them. And if you are planning of going out for the weekend or needs to do something over the weekend then you can always check the newspaper and Internet for free weekend activities.

And if you have your ways try and stay away from spending too much using your credit card. I’m not saying all credit is bad, but credit has become too widely available. Just come to think of this if you are not going to use your credit card that often (spending even on trivial things) then it will all come down to supply and demand and would prices be so high if people weren’t willing to buy extra things that one don’t really need at that time. If people as a whole weren’t so desperate to have it all now and were willing to wait until they saved money to buy something prices might come down. Conventional wisdom says that Instant gratification doesn’t pay off in the long run; simply too much debt is bad.

It is always nice to stay away even a step away from the cutting edge. You will be surprised how stress level has reduced so much if you stay away from being on the cutting edge of your financial status. By not compromising yourself to the new things and “comfortable life” it offers to the point of chocking your financial status to the limit. There is nothing worse than having an extremely busy day and you come home trying to squeeze out all the solutions you can think from your head by figuring out how you are going to deal with all the bills you need to pay just because you forgot to stay even a step away from the cutting edge. Why hassle yourself with loads and tons of bills to pay when you can avoid it and besides being frugal is cool, it’s not really an old school but it sure is one way of out saving the joneses.

If you want to reduce the stress in your life, gain more time back in your days and ultimately save money, I encourage you to stay away even just a step away from being on the cutting edge. It pays to be wise than being sorry later.
