Step 1
Don’t panic. Panicking won’t help you. It will prevent you from thinking quick and properly. You must stay calm and think if your wallet is indeed lost, misplaced or maybe you just left it at home or in the office. Call your home, office or the last place you have been to confirm if it is there. If it is not in those places, then it might be lost.
Step 2
Retrace your steps. Try to remember when was the last time you saw your wallet or the last time you got money from it. By remembering the most recent places where you’ve seen or used your wallet, you will know where to look. Try to remember all the contents of your wallet especially the important ones such as credit cards, ATM cards, company ID, and other licenses.
Step 3
Ask help. Report to authorized personnel or security that your wallet might have been lost on their property. Give them the description of the wallet and the contents. Identify the places where you have been and the exact time when you were there. Also, do not forget to leave your name and contact information so that they will call you in case someone might have found and returned your wallet.
Step 4
Report your missing objects to proper parties - Call your bank to report that your credit card or ATM card is lost together with your wallet so that it may cut them off. You must report to the bank at the earliest possible opportunity. Also, report to your company if ever you lost your company ID or benefits card so that it can arrange proper replacement on time. For licenses such as driver’s license and professional licenses, it is important that you report it to proper authorities. Reporting lost licenses must usually be accompanied by an affidavit of lost object. If you think you need your wallet and its contents badly, you can broadcast it in your local radio station and provide for a little reward. Report your wallet as stolen or lost to the police. You may think it a waste of time but a police report will help you in insurance claims, liability issues and more. It will also help the police identify areas prone to wallet theft and it may help solve them.
Step 5
Learn a lesson - Remember why is the wallet lost or stolen. It is maybe because of its size or where you usually put it. Buy a new wallet and understand that a wallet is important. It organizes and prevents other important items such as cards, receipts and cash from being lost. Only bring enough money that you need for a particular day or occasion. Always keep contact information inside your wallet so that kind hearted individuals who found your wallet may return it to you. Remember that material things, which are lost can easily be earned, replaced and regained. Losing a wallet, more so if it is stolen, is not your fault. When you loss something, don’t lose the lesson.
