I’ve known people who stopped for breakfast every day on the way to work and then went out to eat every day at lunch. I’ve always thought they must be making a lot more money than I am. Occasionally you might need to stop on the way to work. Going out with co-workers for lunch can be fun. But if you spend $10 a day eating out, that’s $50 a week or $200 a month. You can bring meals from home for much less than that. Use the difference to pay down your credit cards.

A Few Tips:

  1. Make you lunch ahead of time so that you don’t have to worry about making them in the morning if you’re running late or just plain forget.
  2. Make sure you have lots of extra snacks so that if you get a craving, you aren’t heading over the the vending machine or cafeteria.
  3. Just because your co-workers are going doesn’t mean you have to go. If you do go bring your lunch with you.
  4. Make yourself a fun and tasty lunch so you aren’t tempted to eat out.

Remember that frugal living isn’t a chore, it’s a lifestyle.
