As a parent I’m sure you know how much fun it can be to take your child to the amusement park or the arcade for a day of fun and laughs. You also know how expensive this can be and in this day and age when money is not the easiest thing to come by you need to start thinking about ways to stretch your budget. Now don’t get me wrong this doesn’t mean you have to stop these outings all together but incorporate other things you can do with your kids that are much less expensive.

Outing #1: The Park

Growing up I can look back on days spent at the park with my family and I can remember the joy that came from just spending quality time with my parents and siblings. If you are heading to the park you can make it an all day adventure for about $3 per person. Pack a picnic lunch, take a container of bubbles and a ball to toss around. You will find that you will eat, run, play and at the end of the day find yourself lying on a blanket watching the clouds go by. It’s a cheap day filled with great fun.

Outing #2: Head to the beach

Many areas have state and county parks that charge per car to get into the park and beach area. This means that for about $5 you can pile several people into one car and everyone can go to the beach to cool off on a hot summer day. Don’t forget to pack a simple picnic lunch of PB&J’s so that there will be no need to stop off at a fast food place to eat on the way home.

Outing #3: Grab a book at the library

This is one of my favorite outings to do with the kids no matter what time of year it is. Going to the library is free, as long as you return your books on time. Reading is something that we as parents need to instill in our children no matter how old they are. Making going to the library an adventure, something fun that will keep them hooked on going and on reading.

Outing #4: Volunteer for a good cause

Not only is this a totally free outing but you are also doing something good along with instilling in your child that volunteering is a good thing to do. You can head to your local animal shelter and walk the dogs, call your local church and see if you can sort their donations or maybe call the local nursing home to see if there is anyone who is in need of a visit.

Outing #5: Do something fun at home

So this may not really be an outing per say but you can still have fun. There are so many things you can do with your kids from cooking, to making homemade ice cream to just snuggling up on the couch watching a cool movie on a rainy afternoon.

No matter what you do with your kids remember that it is more about the quality of time you spend together rather than it is about the money you spend.
