1) Pick the Right Course
Avoid eating out for dinner whenever possible. Breakfast, lunch and brunch are always cheaper than dinner. Now if you don’t fancy breakfast, lunch or brunch, I suggest you eat a light snack an hour before you would normally eat dinner and than head out for some cheap appetizers later that night at your local pub.
2) Go on your Birthday!
Most restaurants offer free meals or large discounts to those who happen to be there for their birthday. Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to tell them it’s your birthday because they see it as a small price to pay for repeat business from you and your friends.
3) SHARE
On a date? Going somewhere special? Be romantic and share a salad, an entree and a desert. Guaranteed there will be enough food for the both of you and you only had to pay half the price. Most restaurants offer portions much larger than we need to consume. So not only will it be romantic, you’ve just avoided consuming an excess amount of calories you didn’t need.
4) Four Words: ALL U CAN EAT
Now I’m not trying to promote obesity, but you can save quite a bit of money with certain types of restaurants by selecting the buffet instead of choosing from the menu. For example, the girlfriend and I love and I mean LOVE sushi.
Every month we go to an all you can eat sushi restaurant for lunch that costs $11.99 each. Now we can order whatever off the menu for 2 hours. That includes appetizers, desert, beverages and all the sushi we can eat. One roll we really love is called a dragon role and it costs $11.99 each. So if we each order one role, we’ve already made up for the price of the buffet. Not all restaurants will have great deals like the one we attend, but there are great deals out there to be found. All you have to do is keep your eyes open and take advantage of them.
5) Drinks? No Thank You!
This is where restaurants make a HUGE amount of money. You order a $30 dollar bottle of wine that costs $10 two blocks away from the restaurant. Now if you feel like you must order a drink with the meal, order the house wine which is usually the best bang for your buck at the restaurant and if you want beer, stay away from the imports. Every time you go out for dinner, look at how much you paid for food and how much you paid for drinks. It will surprise you to see how much you can save by cutting out drinks alone.
